Many Things

Sorry I've been quiet on my blog for the past week and a half. I just wasnt' feelin' it. But since like a spaz I got to work at 6:00 this morning instead of 7:00 when I'm supposed to be here, I really have no excuse for not using this time to blog. I can't start work early, so what to do? So here's what I would have posted if, I'd posted anything.

On Wednesday, I would have talked about my need for PERFECTION and how it's seriously holding me back. Here's a perfect example. There was a contest on Query Tracker, with an amazing deal that the first 100 submissions would hear from the agent where and why they stopped reading their first pages. Pretty cool, so I knew those 100 spots would go fast. I got everything prepared ahead of time. Had a special file for my first pages ready to cut and paste. At exactly 8:00 I jumped to the contest and entered my information. It said that sometimes when cutting and pasting from word, you get formatting errors, so I took five minutes to look over everything, and in the six minutes that passed, 100 people had already signed up. I was locked out. What a bummer. It was like seventh grade when tickets for Shaun Cassidy were up for grabs at the radio station to the 9th caller. I listened to the radio for hours on end and every time they played Da Doo Ron Ron, I ran to the phone and dialed. So now I'll really date myself by pointing out that we had a rotary dial at that time. If you don't know what that is, I can't help you. But let's just say it was slow. My friends mom had to buy the tickets for us. What does this have to do with my need for perfection, who knows, but just another missed opportunity.

I did finally send out three queries on Wednesday night. I'm trying to stay positive.

Oh, and I came up with a brilliant new ending for Zombie Rabbit, so even when I say I'm done for a while, I'm not really done. Afterall, it's not perfect yet.

But I'm writing that ending this weekend, and next week I'm starting on something new, I'll either be doing a major re-write on Sterling and the Trinity, or working on one of my new ideas, I haven't decided yet.

  1. I'm so excited for your new idea!!!

Also - I've tried to enter a contest using a rotary phone before, too! lol. It sucked.

I think your "need" for perfection will set you apart from the slush. But I hear you. Sometimes it can get in the way of getting things done :)

  2. Wow, what a great lesson! I think that's why it's so key to move quickly and get our foot in the door when we can. I also think that while we do want to present ourselves as professionally as possible, agents will overlook some of our mistakes if they really like our stories.
