What is it About Kidlit Series?

I have been counting the days until Mockingjay comes out. I haven't anticipated a book this much since The Deathly Hallows. (I did read Breaking Dawn, but wasn't as crazy about that series as everyone else).

But wait a minute, I'm a grown woman. And not even a just barely grown woman, I mean I am a fully grown woman with the grey hair to prove it.

I've read quite a few adult series also, Steven King's: The Dark Tower, Larry McMurtray's: The Berrybenders, but none that I was anticipating as much as I did Harry Potter and The Hunger Games series.

What about you, are you anticipating Mockingjay as much as I am? Have you read any other series, adult or kidlit that had you running to the bookstore at all hours of the night to get a copy as soon as possible?

  1. I didn't love the hunger games. I have the sequel at my house and I had no desire to read it. I totally understand why other people are into it but it just isn't my thing.

  2. I'm sort of slow on the uptake, so by the time I start a series, all the books are out. Otherwise, I tend to lose interest. Like, I read up to book 4 in Harry Potter, but then book 5 wasn't out yet, so I've never gotten to it. Oh well.

Once I do start a series, though, I devour it like an insane drug addict. I'm #168 on my library's waiting list for The Hunger Games, so I think by the time I get it, book 3 will be out. :)

  3. I am SALIVATING for Mockingjay. I feel like the biggest nerd in the world when I fangirl out about it, but I can't help it. Some people would freak out to meet Justin Timberlake. I would freak out to meet Suzanne Collins. Go figure.

  4. I have to admit I haven't started reading this series as yet. I have the first two books, and will be buying the third, but I'm currently on the 4th Harry Potter book!

  5. Yes! Just the name alone nets the reader: Mockingjay.

  6. I look forward to Mockingjay as well. Very excellent series.
Was never too hooked with Harry Potter, though I did end up reading them all.

Most everything I read book-wise is YA nowadays. There's plenty of good stuff, though.

  7. Oh my, I'm right there with you. I cry at the thought of both the Hunger Games and Harry Potter. And I agree with JEM. If I were to meet Rowling or Collins, I think I'd be too tongue-tied to speak. I might pass out if I saw Jo Rowling.

Less addictive, but still kept me reading furiously: 'A Great and Terrible Beauty' series by Libba Bray; 'The Books of Pellinor' by Alison Croggon...

  8. Sheesh, I was like a child waiting for Christmas with the Harry Potter series. Also film 3 and 4, but although I'm excited to see the next film, they're just not as good as the books.

All the Twilight series were out when I read them, luckily.

I don't know what it is... I'm currently waiting for the next Sookie Stackhouse novel, which doesn't even have a title yet, and possibly not even a first draft, so it's not just kidlit for me. Maybe it's just the whole other-worldly experience that came with Harry Potter. It was like a whole new world opened up.

  9. I read a recent blog post about the appeal of kidlit to adults. (wish I could remember where it was) The writer implied that the kidlit had a more positive, uplifting feel to them than adult fiction.

  10. oooo I am so ready to read Mockingjay. The Hunger Games series is so painful, but I just can't stop thinking about it.

Also, I love YA and MG--I ususally relate to them more than the adult books I've read.
